As for road safety cameras - there will be more and more of them, since observations are showing that photo radars significantly reduce the number of accidents. In places where they are set up, traffic accidents have decreased by 55-60%. A single camera can take up to several thousand images during a single day.
During the night the cameras use a flash, which has a dimmed colour - in this case it's red- so as not to blind drivers. Sometimes the cars are illuminated by infrared light, which is invisible to humans.
The camera takes pictures when triggered by a car driving at a speed usually a few km/h higher than the limit due to measurement errors (up to about 5%). The images are then sent to the owner of the car, who's adress is identified by the registration plate numbers, and there is no other car on the photo. If there are several cars, for example, on a two lane, it is difficult to prove who committed the offense.
The most effective method of avioding this kind of penalty is driving according to speed limits. If you use a radar detector, you face a penalty.
There are those who spray paint their registration plates which is not very effective and and it works only at night when the speed camera uses flash.
Another method is to use polarized overlays for registration plates - which make them unreadable, since the camera takes pictures at a certain angle.
A leaf or a plastic bag stuck to the register is another, cheaper, way of preventing the camera from taking a picture of your plates.

Can You tell as the source of the statistics? I heard that it is not true. The speed cameras don't reduces accidents. In my opinion, the can provide more trouble. When someone spot a camera, he/she bakes very sudden and it's dangerous too. In my opinion there is too many of them, and main aim for it is to make money. That is the truth.

I think this is not a good idea to cheat, and to discuss methods of cheating. Cameras are for us, for our safety. In Poland many people drive to fast and drive in a way that causes accidents. Cameras can help police in their work.
ReplyDeleteI'm amraid that I can't agree with you, Jakub K. For example, route between Warsaw and Cracow. There are countless crossroads there and if there were no speed cameras, most people would go much faster. Sometimes it's hard to go back on such road.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with Jakub K. Speed cameras are the ones which cause the danger. When the camera is noticed people suddenly start to brake and it isn’t really safe. I think there’s no point to cheat cameras in such ways you showed but the amount of the cameras should be changed, of course cut down.
ReplyDeleteSpeed cameras do not cose trouble, there is always a sign before to inform you that there is a speed camera in front. You can get yourself ready for it. There is no reason to cheat, just folow the speed limit and reduce the speed. This is the safety of kids we are talking and alder people we are talking about. There are places where main road shoots through a small town and the school is right by the road.That place needs a speed camera and the drivers should reduce their speed limit immediately. Speed cameras are there for a reason and it is not our job to decide change it.
ReplyDeleteTwo weeks ago I got a picture of the speed camera, crossed the speed of 12km / h I got 4 points and 300PLN. I would add is not built into the safety camera detached. I think speed cameras should only be in cities. Virtually every GPS speed camera warning us against, and each release and then goes faster. First, they should make a good way to punish then and now is the opposite.

Hmm, I should consider a leaf method... Generally, I agree with Jakub K. If you compare roads in Germany and Poland you can find an answer how to increase safety on the roads. It's all about how to built motorways in a way that would not allow people to make collisions. People always will cheat if the law is not really reasonable.

I think that nobody should cheat, because it can lead to a serious car accident. People should drive cars with the authorized speed and watch the road while driving. These cameras should be installed for our safety in dangerous places and in well known place. Those cameras shpud prevent us from endagering people, not to distract drivers an fill someones bank accounts.

ReplyDeleteWhen somebody see “Speed camera sign” trying to reduce the speed rapidly and instead of paying attention on the road is trying to find the camera in the nearest bushes. That increases the number of accidents. The stupidest thing is to place camera near pedestrian crossing. That’s creasy.
I’ve seen funny way to avoid pictures from such cameras. There was one episode from Top Gear Series about Speed cameras, where Richard Hammond tried to find accurate speed to outsmart camera. In my opinien evry from this idea to avoid peenalty a cause of speed cameras are good but I think that the best methode is a leaf or a plastic bag stuck on the register,but the best methode I think is slow down ,then any speed cameras wont do photo.
ReplyDeleteAn interesting way of making the plates unreadable is lighting them by infrared LEDs. However, it would work only at night. In an episode of myth busters thy tested all of the above methods and unfortunately all ware proved ineffective. Maybe except sticking a leaf on the plates.
