History of Facebook

Facebook was founded on February 4, 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg. During his studies, Mark with his friends invented a project called "TheFacebookAfter two weeks of service and great success, Mark decided to extend the operation of the service to other universities.

In August 2004, Facebook expanded operations to over 30 universities in the United States. Currently there are registered over 450 million people worldwide. Every month, more than 1 million users share their photos and10 million videos!

Mark Elliot Zuckerberg was born May 14, 1984 in White Plains. When Mark was 6 years old started his adventure with computers, he took private lessons the programming. Mark in 2002, graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy, then began his studies at Harvard. The first draft of Mark was called "Course match" he allowed to see a list of students assigned to the same year. The next project was called "Facemash.com" this was a party-type rating site, where you can rate photos of students at Harvard. Porta work only four hours because the university blocked access to the Internet. The next idea was created after splitting with Mark's girlfriend a project called "The Facebook" then the name was changed "Facebook". In summer 2004, Mark moved to Palo Alto in California, where he rented a house which was also the first agency Facebook. In California he met Peter Thiel who was the founder of the famous Napster. Mark Peter gave many ideas how to develop Facebook, he got shares in the stock.

A few months later, the office was moved to the center of Palo Alto.In 2007, Microsoft acquired Facebook share of 1.6% of the value of shares U.S. $240mln. Mark in 2008 became the youngest billionaire according to Forbs magazine. He was on the 735 spot with a net worth of $ 1.5 billion. The Polish version of Facebook was created in 2008. Do you have an account on Facebook?
What do you think of social networks?

Have you watched the movie "The Social Network"?

Do you think Mark Zuckerberg is a genius?
Do you think people have a double life in the real world and on the Web?

  1. Yes, I have an account on Facebook. But not because I wanted to have it, just because someone started it :). Moreover, it is necessary to carry out my Facebook page.

I did not watch the movie "The Social Network" because it aroused my interest.

Mark Zuckerberg is not a genius, he was just lucky and hit big at the right moment to rise to new social network, which apparently was received with enthusiasm of millions of people around the world. First social network I recollect was made in 1993, and what is more FB is based on Microsoft technologies used in their portal made in 2003. The portal was far more advanced but it was pre dated.

Double Life? That sounds a bit ambiguous. I think it is the same life.

  2. I have a account on Facebook. I think social networks are good to keep in touch when you have little time to meet.

I've seen "The Social Network". Mr. Zuckerberg is not a genius, he was just smart and lucky enough to use a not so new idea and spread it all over the world.

Some people seem to have a double life. In the web they are different, often try to be more cool etc.

  3. I agree with guys. I don't think so he's genius,, just smart man, it sounds better. He had a great idea and realized it at the right time.
I have an account on Facebook. Mostly because of one reason, I can keep in touch with my firends who are abroad now. This is one of the best ways to connect with them anytime I want.
But I also think It can be dangerous for some people, first of all it's easy to become an addict and secondly it can be kind of escape from real life for people who are rather isolated. It's not very healthy for them. People who have problems with comumnication should be with others not alone with their computers.

  5. No, I don’t have a Facebook account. And I’ve never wanted to have.
I don’t see “The Social Network” movie as well. It is out of scope of my interests.

Is Mark Zuckerberg a genius? In my opinion not. For sure he is a millionaire.
I’ve read an article about creating Facebook.

During the studies he joined to the Harvard’s project focused on creating social network application. He was responsible for programming.
But he didn’t do his job well. He used to delayed his parts of work. Team members were angry. And suddenly he decided to write separate application (independent project) and reported it before Harvard’s team. That’s the way of Facebook creation.
Double life? I thing every one of us has a double or even triple live…

  6. 1. I do and I find it fairly useful.
    2. I think that social networks are a sign of our times and the quintessence of Web 2.0 culture. In a way they show the meaning of the "global village". We live in the age of communication and we make friends with people who we've never seen more and more often.
    3. I haven't seen this movie. I believe it might be interesting, still it's a bit weird to make a picture about such a young person. What the great promotion! ;-)
    4. I totally agree with other guys about Mark Zuckerberg.
    5. I'm sure there are people like this. There is no absolute truth on the Internet because people create their own reality. They create themselves. And there are many swindlers and even criminals who use it.

  7. I do have an account on facebook and I think social networks are useful in the sense that they allow you to be in touch with friends and co-workers who live far away.
I have seen the movie and I think is very good.
I don't think that Mark is a genius. The idea wasn't his, but he is a very intelligent person who is not afraid of hard work and who had enough knowledge to make this idea a reality.
I think it is just like with actors in polish tv series like "klan", who also have a life separated from their tv character.

  9. I can't say that Mark Zuckenberg is a genius. He seems like intelligent guy that had an idea and done it almost perfectly. For me, it's not genius but a huge amount of knowledge, luck and ideas.

"The social network" seems like a good movie, but for me, it's just too up-to-date.

Talking about people living double lifes is overreacting, for me. For me people are showing much, there are problems connected with that, but I don' see this as something bad.

  10. 1. Yes, I do but I am not a fun of Facebook, as I mentioned in previous blog - "Children of Marketing"
    2. In these days people don't have enough time to keep relationships with all friends in real life and spend a lot of time at the computer so the social networks are very popular. And it's still a good niche to make a business.
    3. In my opinion "The social network" is a good movie.
    4. I agree with colleagues, he is not a genius but a very clever guy who hit the mark with appropriate idea in a proper time.
    5. A lot of people, even from whom I know, have the second life, not only in web but also in real life... It is sad...

I think social networks are the most important thing in life. It's not the phenomenon of our times. It was always like that-always people had to have connections to be able to live well.

  13. I don`t know anybody that doesn't have a facebook account - of course I have one. I don't really like other social networks like nasza klasa, but I'm not able to say exactly why. I've seen the film, but I don't liked it, I just liked the part with Napster founder. Mark isn't a genius, he just had a good idea.

  14. Nooo! Not another facebook post...

Yes I do have a facebook profile and no - I will not accept your friend request :P Honestly, I don't know what people see in facebook. Most of the apps / functionalities is useless to me and I don't even bother checking them out. Still, I use it only to communicate with friends whose email adresses (and mobile phones numbers) I don't have.

What do you think of social networks?
I think they suck hard and because of social networks I hate the word "social".

Have you watched the movie "The Social Network"?
I've seen it and I think it's quite good. I expected a full-blown Hollywood-style production, but it wasn't anything like that.

Do you think Mark Zuckerberg is a genius?
He's not a genius - he was first on the market and managed to sign good deals with right people.

Do you think people have a double life in the real world and on the Web?
I have never though about it, nor am I interested whether they do :)

  15. Yes I have an account on Facebook with high level of restrictions for other people.

I think the social networks have some pluses and minuses. Pluses are that we can meet friends, communicate with they in easy way, see interesting pictures and movies, play games etc. Minuses are privacy and addiction. Many people don't know about their profiles are public and it's sad. Many companies, police and other people can use user information against him.

Yes I watched this movie. Great movie :) I don't think about Mark as genius - he just had great idea.

  16. I have an account on Facebook, as almost everyone. It's a simple way to keep connected with my friends and to share my feelings and thoughts with others. However, I have to admit, that it might be a litlle addictive. I haven't seen the film yet, but I'm going to. I think Mark Zuckenberg is not a genius, he just had a great idea and were able to use it in a way that brought him fun. And money.
