I have found some information about the "Polack" documentary a few days ago that I would like to share with You and ask for your opinion. The topic of the movie is a little controversial - it’s about jokes about Polish people. It is obvious that there are many jokes around the world about many different groups of people of many nationalities, professions or hair color, but where it comes to jokes about us there seems to be no mercy. Moreover, the documentary is not only about making fun of us but also shows the cultural and political background of such jokes.
Have You seen this movie? What did you think about it? Do you think we deserve to be treated like this, or is there no need to be so serious about mere jokes?

I have never seen this movie... But I will try to watch it ASAP. It seems to be controversial and I like unusual "art"...
ReplyDeleteA few days before finding that documentary, I have seen a clip from an episode of Family Guy - the controversial American animation series. There was a fight between two main characters, calling each other names, and the fight was finished by one of them saying 'And you're half-Polish!' It wasn't funny for me..
ReplyDeleteI would really like to see this movie, it can be interesting. I think everyone knows that polish people do not have a good opinion among foreigners. It’s all about stereotypes and I don’t think we should care about it. For example British People don’t like us because most of Poles who go there, are simple people just looking for work. It’s unfair but we can also laugh from other nations...
ReplyDeleteI have not seen this movie yet. But I will have to! Seems there will be nothing new. We know everything about ourselver, and we know how other nationalities are talking about us.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion we do not have to worry. Every nationality has some stereotypes, negative or positive. We have to look at it with a little tongue in cheek :)
I am also happy to see this movie seems very interesting.
ReplyDeleteI did not watch this movie. Probably I do not watch it because I do not think that this is a typical TV document. It's not a ambitious work which will remain in memory for years. Besides such a film can be done about every nationality. Since each is different and the other is a joke. What's more, some people who will see this film in the USA will not know where is Poland. In addition, the only Polish name on the poster is a music composer, so I just believe that the writer has had time to study the realities in Poland.
ReplyDeleteThe poster is cute and I'm curious to see this movie, however I doubt in its impartiality. In the trailer there are many skinheads and I haven't seen any for years.
ReplyDeleteNever heard about it before. For me it looks like worth to see. Polish jokes... it's sad true. That opinion was delivered many years ago and we've been contributing to this all the time. Half of the world doesn't know us, other half is laughing.
ReplyDeleteI don't know this movie, never saw it. But the joke and word, "Polack" I already met. And not from any boards, forums or in newspapers, but in a very big American productions.
ReplyDeleteI do not like this what "Polack" means in America, but We could help to change it. Too many underdeveloped Poles went abroad and has developed such an opinion as we have ... unfortunately :(
Why so serious? :) I hope I'm wrong but I think that most of our fellow countrymen that emigrated to USA were... how to say it... not the most bright people. They are simple folks who wanted to taste American dream. I know many stories about Poles that emigrated to USA without even knowing the language because this is America and everyone will be rich. As always I base this on my personal experiences and what I've read and heard from friends and family.
ReplyDeleteI never watched this movie, but I hope it'll be later with polish subtitles that I can wath and understand all.
ReplyDeleteI really dislike that fact in around world are some stereotypes about us, Poland people, so when I'm meeting new peoples abroad then I'm showing that these stereotypes are false ;)
Poster is so great! :)
